DISHKYAAON!!!, 2024, 3 Minutes 32 Seconds, Kannada

Question 1 (10 marks)

a. (1test + 1stupid green boy + 2big chops) x the pressure generated by a family WhatsApp group chat = DISHKYAAON!!!

'Dishkyaaon!!!' is a multimedia frame by frame 2D animated short film that switches back and forth between digital and traditional animation. The title, based off of an old Indian film soundbite, denotes the sound of a punch, a gunshot, or a minor explosion. Much like this on·o·mat·o·poe·ia, the film aims to feel like an emotional uppercut to your face, taking you back to those childhood memories that you don't want to remember, Finally, I spelled my dear friend Alex Ferrandiz' name incorrectly in my credits, feel free to point and laugh at me for my blunder.

I had very limited knowledge about accessing media as a kid, (I only discovered Spotify in 9th grade..) I spent most of my time traversing Vimeo and it's really exciting to me that my film is now a Staff Pick too. This film greatly pays homage to some of my favorite animators, shows, and films from growing up. While making this film, I KEPT thinking about how i'd place myself into all these wonderfully violent and extreme animations that I'd watch as a coping mechanism to the insane stress of my exams when i was a younger. Academic stress really had me daydreaming myself into the media I consumed. The changes in style are extremely deliberate (#that one episode of the amazing world of gumball)! Thank you to Yoshimichi Kameda for your wonderful smears (one punch man changed my life), Dead End by @vewn_ (This film led me to develop rly weird knife game interests, watching that during exam time...man it led to some crazy thoughts... I HAD to directly reference it), Devilman crybaby (the OG), Courage the cowardly dog, Southpark, and all the other animators and cartoons I have ever consumed in my lifetime. You taught me movement. This has subconsciously become a collage of everything I have ever visually consumed.
